It will feel like you’ve reached the end of the road once those cuffs find their way to your wrists. Everything will become a series of blurs as you’re booked, detained, and arraigned. More events unfold like a fog and then things become all too real when you enter the county jail to do your time.
Being incarcerated can make you rethink your whole life; assess what has led you to where you are now. If there is anything you cannot escape from in jail, it is your own thoughts, and the fact that you will need to do a lot of thinking.
At Merced County Jail though, efforts are being made to give inmates more goal-oriented things to do — things that would enable their transition back to society, better and easier.
What Programs the Jails Provide
Merced County has several programs that address spiritual recovery, behavior intervention, general education development, parenting, life skills, and job placement. These programs are designed to help every inmate turn what is considered to be a tragic turn of events in their lives into something of a catalyst for positive change.
Merced County Jail AddictionBy implementing programs that resolve behavioral issues, the County Jail may be able to help inmates with alcoholism and narcotic dependency. There is also behavioral intervention for anger management. In the course of addressing such destructive behavior, the program seeks to help those incarcerated to cultivate life skills — life skills valuable for parents, especially.
What To Expect
The program does individual assessments first before proceeding with the treatment. There are weekly cogitative behavioral meetings, with six to 10 hours of cognitive behavioral groups. Progress is determined through periodic evaluations. After compliance has been achieved, those who deserve it are given affirmations and awards.
Release & Transitions
The Merced County also created release and transition plans that are tailored to suit every individual. The aim here is to help solidify the changes and achievements that inmates have done, which then allows for more successful recovery. And gives the former inmate a better opportunity to live a crime-free lifestyle.
Once you have been judged by a jury of your peers, and the Merced County Superior Court makes a decision about the sentence that has to be served, there is no reason to lose hope. A support system is in place. The right programs are at your disposal, with access to sufficient resources for a smoother transition. And with enough desire to truly change and make a go of it, you can live a life after some time in jail.
